"No more party crap": independent Dezarnaulds wants change in Gilmore

Kate Dezarnaulds insists she's not a politician. Her Mum says different.

"When I said at an event that I was not a politician, my Mother reminded me that as a seven-year-old I wanted to be Prime Minister," said Ms Dezarnaulds.

"She said this is you just coming back to yourself somehow."

Shaking up party politics

These days, it's not Ms Dezarnaulds' parents she's giving hell to, but the major political parties, running as an independent candidate for the seat of Gilmore.

"I've been the president of the Chamber of Commerce for the last three years, so I've had a lot to do with all of the candidates, and there are no bad humans in the mix," she said.

"But we need to get back to local representation that cares more about the priorities and concerns of the people in the constituency than personal career paths or maintaining power."
